16 years later, they still make my spine tingle… May 30, 2006

I saw Pearl Jam live tonight for the 2nd time in my life.

They played to a PACKED stadium here in Washington DC. Maybe 20,000 people or so.

I wasn't on the floor unfortunately, but the seats were good and the sound was excellent from where we were, directly in front of the stage.

They played a solid set-list. Lots of old favourites (Alive, Animal, Even Flow, Why Go, Leash) and then lots of newbies (Worldwide Suicide, Life Wasted, Inside Job, Come Back) and then a few rarities. The whole setlist should be online tomorrow.

They played a song tonight that I haven't really listened to the lyrics of for a long time.

It seems quite relevant to me at the moment….

Present Tense VEDDER/MCCREADY
Do you see the way that tree bends?
Does it inspire?
Leaning out to catch the sun's rays
A lesson to be applied
Are you getting something out of this all-encompassing trip?

You can spend your time alone, re-digesting past regrets, oh
Or you can come to terms and realize
You're the only one who can't forgive yourself, oh
Makes much more sense, to live in the present tense

Have you ideas on how this life ends?
Checked your hands and studied the lines
Have you the belief that the road ahead, ascends off into the light?
Seems that needlessly it's getting harder
To find an approach and a way to live
Are we getting something out of this all-encompassing trip?

You can spend your time alone re-digesting past regrets, oh
Or you can come to terms and realize
You're the only one who cannot forgive yourself, oh
Makes much more sense, to live in the present tense

If you can get tickets to see them when they tour past you, do it. They are still very much worth it.

2 hrs and 20 minutes they played for. Not many concerts go for that long any more…

Eddie Vedder, you rock my world.

I saw Pearl Jam in Canberra, Australia years ago. They played a great set, but the venue sucked.

Apparently, the fact that the gig didn’t sell-out guaranteed no further international acts for the ACT. Very sad.

Any concert over one hour is great value. Good work Pearl Jam!

Hey, Recently found your blog and have been lurking for a bit. I think Pearl Jam would be awesome live. You’re very lucky. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m so jealous. I saw so many bands in the early 90s. So. freakin’. many. Except Pearl Jam and Nirvana. I hang my head in shame. At least I can still see Pearl Jam, though.

Love the lyrics to that song! And yes quite appropriate for you I would say.

G’day Buddy. How’s life there? Getting hot I hope… freezing our arses off here in Canberra. Still chasing dogs up and down streets and around apartments? Looking forward to seeing you back here for a visit in July. The wedding is just about sorted, so consider yourself booked for the long weekend in June ’07! How about those Socceroos?!? NSW went down to QLD, so the SOO series is 1-1. Eels still suck. My colleague Sharon Graddon and her sigther Bill are heading to Washington, he’ll be visiting the embassy next week – told him to say hi if he sees you (yeah, like there’s only about 3 or 4 of you working there) ๐Ÿ™‚ Anyway, stay away from bullets. Cheers, Tim.

Thanks for the update Timmy! And Thanks to everyone for reading and commenting! And brother, I was at that Pearl jam gig in Canberra too. It was great to see them outdoors and I thought they got a great crowd! I had been there from 5 in the morning to get to the front though!
